ESA launched the ESA_Lab@ initiative in 2016 to create a hub for disruptive innovation and cross-fertilisation.
An ESA_Lab@ is:
- A joint initiative between ESA and academia/research institutions located within their own premises.
- Supported by ESA via open data access policy and expertise.
- An institutional link between ESA and universities/academia/research institutions.
- Part of a wider network of ESA_Lab@s.

UCL Vice-Provost (Research) David Price and ESA Director General Johann-Dietrich Woerner signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) that made UCL an official ESA_LAB on the 24th of September 2019 at the UK Space Conference in Newport Wales.
This MoA creates a mutually beneficial relationship which will allow UCL to better align with ESA's research needs and provide specialist support to relevant space-related research programmes.
Congratulations to all involved, particularly the theme leaders.
