Call for Abstracts for Microbiobiology@UCL Symposium 2020 and chance to win ECR talk and poster prizes

Talks

Eight slots are available for 5 minute research talks by Early Career Researchers (ECRs). One of these 8 ECRS will be selected for the ECR Talk Prize, which will be judged on the day by a panel of UCL microbiologists.

  • Submission: Please submit an abstract of your talk with title, authors, and affiliations, and the presenter name clearly indicated. Abstracts should be 100 words or less (not including title, authors, and affiliations) and emailed as word doc or pdf to China Hanson by the 22nd May at 5pm.
  • Eligibility: Must be a UCL-affiliated ECR (researcher in the early stages of their career), which we define as pre-PhD through to 5-years after receiving the PhD.  ECRs from any and all disciplines are welcome to submit abstracts, but the research topic must be related to or directly applicable to microbiology (inclusive of viruses, bacteria, archaea, fungi and protists). Unfortunately, if your PI/supervisor is already giving a talk at the symposium this year, you are inelegible for a talk, but we highly encourage you to submit a poster (see below).
  • Selection process: Abstracts will be selected for the 8 talks by a panel of UCL microbiologists primarily on the basis of scientific quality and secondarily for breadth across all talks in order to showcase a wide range of topics during the symposium. Those abstracts not selected for talks will be invited for poster presentations.

Posters

We welcome all researchers from the UCL community at all career stages (including academics, clinicians, and students) to present a poster. Note, however, that only those presenters who fit the definition of ECR above will be eligible for the ECR Poster prize.

  • Submission: Please submit a poster title, authors, and affiliations, with the presenter name clearly indicated. Please also indicate whether the poster presenter is an ECR. This should be emailed as word doc or pdf to China Hanson by the 22nd May at 5pm.
  • Eligibility: Any UCL-affiliated staff or student. Researchers of all career stages and disciplines are welcome to present a poster on any topic related to microbiology, but only ECRs will be eligible for the ECR Poster Prize. ECRs are defined as pre-PhD through to 5-years after receiving the PhD. Poster topic must be related to or directly applicable to microbiology (inclusive of viruses, bacteria, archaea, fungi and protists).
  • Selection process: All poster titles with relevant microbiology content will be accepted. Winner of the ECR Poster Prize will be selected on the basis of scientific quality by a panel of UCL microbiologists on the day.

For any questions about elgibility or submission requirements, please get in touch with China Hanson.
