It will support teachers engaged in teaching literacy in Key Stage 1 to:
- make sound judgements about which books are used for what purpose;
- know how to use books to give children the best possible context for learning.
It will encompass a theoretical overview of reading; how the purpose of a guided reading lesson can shape planning, preparation, structure and choices of text; the use of decodable texts for teaching phonics; supporting the development of comprehension through reading for meaning and information; and creating and managing guided reading libraries.
