Three founders of BoobyBiome

Dr. Sioned Jones and Dr. Tara O’Driscoll, co-founders of BoobyBiome, have been named on the European 2024 Forbes 30 Under 30 list, positioning them among some of the most influential entrepreneurs and change-makers globally. Meanwhile, the final co-founder, Dr. Lydia Mapstone, narrowly missed the age cutoff by just a couple of days.

BoobyBiome is a female-founded and award-winning start-up based in the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health who are revolutionising infant health for the generations to come. Their mission is to close the disparity in infant feeding, guaranteeing that every baby, whether breastfed or not, gains access to the beneficial effects of the breast milk microbiome. This microbiome serves to strengthen infant immune defences against diseases and fosters lifelong health.

The company was founded in 2019 by three co-founders Dr Sioned Jones (COO), Dr Tara O’Driscoll (CTO) and Dr Lydia Mapstone (CEO). The trio holds PhDs in microbiology, neuroscience, chemistry, and biophysics from prestigious institutions such as University College London and King’s College London. Their journey began with a deep concern for the alarming rise in infant diseases attributed to inadequate microbiome development. Recognising the undeniable health benefits of breastfeeding, they pursued the unexplored realm of the breast milk microbiome's influence on infant health.
