Faculty members have recently participated in the Faculty of Population Health Sciences Video Competition, showcasing their creativity and engaging others with their work. The competition aimed to encourage staff and students to creatively communicate the findings of their research and what their roles involve through creating a video.

After careful deliberation, the judges have made their decisions, and we are thrilled to announce the winners as follows:

  • Best Researcher Video: Jenny Hall, UCL Institute for Women’s Health
  • Best Student Video: Maria Caluianu, UCL GOS Institute of Child Health

We are also delighted to announce the winner of the People's Choice Award voted by the public, the winning video is ‘What’s your plan?’ Jenny Hall.

We extend our congratulations to all the winners and participants for their exceptional contributions to this competition. These videos not only showcased your expertise in your research areas but also demonstrated your abilities to engage others with your work in a creative way.

Claire Smith, an Associate Professor at UCL GOS Institute of Child Health, led the initiative, she says “It has been an absolute pleasure to run this competition and see the wonderful talent and creativity that exists in our faculty. I think communicating our research through video is a powerful way to inspire and humanise our research and I hope that this competition encourages more researchers to share their work in the future”.

The winner of the Best Researcher Video and the People’s Choice Award, Dr Jenny Hall, created her video, What’s your plan?’ to raise awareness amongst the general public of the benefits of pregnancy planning. “I am absolutely thrilled that our video...won the People’s Choice vote! The decision to create a short video was made in collaboration with my amazing patient and public engagement group, who have been working with me for over two years... firmly believe that their input is one of the reasons it won the People’s Choice vote and would strongly encourage other researchers to involve the public in their work too.” say’s Dr Hall.

Additionally, the winner of the Best Student Video, Maria Caluianu, created a video abstract, explaining the work she and other members of the David Long Lab do to develop 3D in vitro models of kidney components. "Thank you very much for this award! This video competition was an amazing opportunity for me to showcase my scientific work in a more accessible format. I would definitely encourage others to take part in these kinds of competitions. They give you a chance to really show people your research through your eyes." comments Maria.

Thank you to all who participated, it has been a great way to learn more about the wide range of research taking place in the faculty.

Stay tuned for more exciting opportunities to showcase your talents and watch the winning videos below.
