Student Spotlight: Fanuel, Online MPH Master of Public Health

We speak to Fanuel, a student on the Online MPH Master of Public Health taught at the UCL Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care. Hear what Fanuel has to say about his course.
Fanuel, why did you choose to study your programme?
I chose to study at UCL because it is a highly reputable university in the world with a strong reputation in the field of public health, ranked 7th globally based on the 2022 Shanghai ranking. UCL’s public health programme is unique as it is designed to provide students with a solid grounding in the key concepts and skills of public health such as epidemiology, health leadership, and health policy, preparing students for diverse career opportunities.
What have you enjoyed most about the programme so far?
I enjoy the pace and content of the MPH programme. I have also enjoyed the interactions with diverse and stimulating classmates and the knowledge I gained across the modules.
Are you interested in any specific careers after your studies? If so, what are your future career goals?
I would like to pursue a career in health protection and epidemiology with government agencies, UN agencies, and non-profit organizations in the developing world, where I will be able to take more active roles in the prevention, preparedness, and control of public health emergencies.
What advice would you give to incoming students?
Making connections within the academic community will be beneficial in your future career. Since the MPH programme attracts students from diverse backgrounds and parts of the world, you will have the opportunity to meet and learn from them.
