Faculty Steps Challenge winners announced

As part of National Walking Month the Faculty of Population Health Sciences took part in the pilot of UCL's Steps Challenge to promote wellbeing.

245 people formed 49 teams across the Faculty of Population Health Sciences for the pilot run of UCL's Steps Challenge in May 2019.

In 4 weeks the Faculty has collectively walked an incredible 84.8 million steps (around 40.1 thousand miles), which is nearly 2 times around the world!

Team Ascot+1 (pictured above) were winners of the Best Team Photo competition. 

Many competitors took to social media to share their efforts with tweets, photos and more using #fphsgetmoving to share their progress. 

Overall faculty winners

The overall team winners of the step challenge were the Research Physios from the Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health who logged an unbelievable 2,851,622 steps over 4 weeks. 

Sally Davenport from the Fitbit Fizzyos, also based at the Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, is our individual winner clocking up an impressive 851,799 steps. 

UCL-wide weekly winners

Week 1

  • Most steps – Pimp my Stride (Office of Vice-Provost Health) with an average of 124,132 steps per person for that week

Week 2

  • Most steps – Research Physios (GOS Institute of Child Health)
  • Best picture voted by our Instagram followers – DAHR Walkers (Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care)
  • Most creative picture – Evolution of Exercise by Nephruns (Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health)

Week 3

  • Most steps – Research Physios (Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health)
  • Most improvement from week 1 – Research Physios (Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health)

Week 4

  • Most steps – Research Physios (Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health)
  • Overall most steps – Research Physios (Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health)
  • Best team name – Red Hot Chilli Steppers (Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care)

Congratulations to our winners and everyone who took part, and a huge thank you to everyone coordinating the challenge within their Institutes and programme teams – we had a great time and already looking forward to next year!
