MSci Theoretical Physics, 1st Year

Hi! My name is Isabel and I’m studying Theoretical Physics in my first year. My hobbies include playing table tennis, reading, music and piano practice. My favourite part of physics is particle physics!

After months of thinking about which university would suit me, I was drawn to UCL by the prospect of being in a welcoming community of people who all have the same passion for Physics; as well as being in such a vibrant city. The Physics program at UCL is one of the finest in the UK and has brilliant lecturers, facilities and an inclusive and diverse environment.

My move in day was extremely stressful, having packed up my room from home into 3 suitcases, and being stuck in traffic during rush hour. Despite this, I was welcomed into halls of residence by such friendly and kind people, who are now some of my closest friends. Over the course of Welcome week, I have gained so many new experiences and met such lovely people all while exploring London and adjusting to University life (meaning learning how to cook in my case), all with the support of UCL. In my opinion, London is the best city to study in, there is always so much to do- from theatres to cafes to shops, the choice is incredible. Since the first lecture, I have been engrossed in the material and it is so refreshing to be surrounded by people that share the same passion about the subject as I do.

At UCL, we have over 300 clubs and societies to join! I recently tried out the baking society and am looking to join the UCL science magazine which will give me a great insight into science writing. These last few weeks have been some of the best of my life, and I’m so excited to see what my future at UCL holds.
