The Department of Physics and Astronomy at UCL offers primary and secondary school outreach and public engagement with the wider community. Offering teacher CPD, school visits to the London campus and Mill Hill Observatory for regular tours and special events such as 'Dark Matter Day' and 'Your Universe'
Come and join us for an exploration into one of the greatest mysteries of the Universe; The Hunt for Dark Matter, we plan to celebrate Dark Matter Day on the 30th Oct (as the 31st is already quite a busy day).
Schools will have an opportunity to be part of demonstrations, talk to and have their questioned answered by real-life researchers into dark matter and tour the telescopes we have on site (and a peek at the Sun if the weather permits). Early evening tickets are available to the general public, free tickets will be avaialble to book soon.
We are targeting Upper Key Stage 2 in the morning and Secondary Schools in the afternoon. Will have something to see and do for everyone, as they learn about how dark matter is searched for and why physicists think it exists in the first place.
Children will learn not only about Dark Matter, but also the experience of where learning about Science can lead, develop their own problem solving skills and bring a sense of wonder and awe back into the classroom.
