Our Mission

Experimental Psychology offers a world leading research environment aimed at understanding the psychological and biological basis of behavior.  Research in the department explores behaviour in both human and other species, from a cellular level through brain systems, cognition, computational and social levels. Our core research encompasses behavioural and cognitive neuroscience, sensory systems, learning and memory, language, decision-making and social cognition. These themes are explored using state-of-the-art facilities within the department, including brain imaging (fMRI) and stimulation (TMS), behavioural testing and systems neuroscience.

Athena Swan

Launched in June 2005, the Athena SWAN charter recognises and celebrates good employment practices for women working in Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine (STEMM) in higher education and research. It aims to assist the recruitment, retention and promotion of women in STEMM and promote good practice. UCL was awarded its first University-wide Bronze Athena SWAN award in 2006, renewed this award in 2009 and 2012. In 2015 UCL received a Silver Athena SWAN award.

As part of the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences, we are pleased to have thrice-received a Silver Athena SWAN award (2009, 2013, 2021), for our work on advancing the careers of women scientists.
