Why is UCL delivering training on Prevent?
Government guidance requires that universities have in place policies for events with external speakers, welfare and pastoral care, IT usage and deliver training to support staff. The Office for Students (OfS) monitors compliance around delivering the Prevent Duty.
What is UCL’s approach to Prevent?
UCL’s approach to Prevent focuses on the welfare of our students and staff. We want to ensure that we train key staff on processes related to Prevent, such as safeguarding vulnerable individuals and procedures for events with external speakers.
Who is this training relevant to?
This Prevent training is relevant to any staff member who has a student facing role, elements of their role are student facing or has a particular interest in safeguarding and the Prevent duty.
All staff who wish to complete this more in-depth training should have completed the mandatory online module on Prevent that includes further information about management of events with external speakers. You can access the online training via the UCL website. This training should be completed by all UCL staff.
What will be covered?
The training will cover in more detail subjects covered in the online training such as what is Prevent, what are the objectives of the Prevent duty, and how the Prevent duty applies to UCL, and our processes. You can find more information about Prevent at UCL on the UCL web pages.
If you have any queries about the Prevent Duty and UCL’s approach or training opportunities, please get in touch.
