UCL celebrates UK Disability History Month 2021

UCL is marking UK Disability History Month 2021 with a variety of free events and activities.

UCL is presenting a range of events as part of UK Disability History Month 2021. Find out more below.

November:

  • 30 November – [VIRTUAL/FOR ALL]: Join a 'Fireside chat' with legendary disability rights activist Judy Heumann, who will be speaking about her recent book, Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist.
  • 25 November – [VIRTUAL/FOR STAFF]: Find out more about disability equality in the UK at this staff Community of Practice workshop.
  • 29 November – [VIRTUAL/FOR ALL]: Louise Grimmett from UCL's Student Support and Wellbeing will be leading this online talk on neurodiversity and the resources that UCL can offer.
  • 29 November – [VIRTUAL/FOR STUDENTS]: Join a workshop on discussing disabilities and health conditions with employers. The event will offer advice on recognising when an employer has an inclusive culture and guidance on further resources and support.

December:

  • 2 December – [VIRTUAL/FOR ALL]: UCL's Centre for Artificial Intelligence and the Global Disability Innovation Hub will be hosting #WeThe15 in Artificial Intelligence, an online event to discuss the power of AI in transforming the lives of people with disabilities.
  • 2 December – [VIRTUAL/FOR ALL]: In this Lunch Hour Lecture, Professor Katrina Scior and Lisa Richardson will present research on a range of interventions to combat the stigma of intellectual disability.
  • 3 December – [VIRTUAL AND IN PERSON/FOR ALL]: The Portico will be lighting up purple for International Day of Persons with Disabilities at UCL. Join in by following the #IDPwDAtUCL hashtag on the day and sharing what you are doing in your area to support disability inclusion.
  • 3 December – [VIRTUAL/FOR ALL]: In celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, UCL Student Support and Wellbeing will be hosting academics and an expert student panel
  • 8 December – [VIRTUAL/FOR ALL]: Join a panel discussion on rethinking inclusive spaces in Higher Education based on learnings from disabled students and staff.
  • 9 and 14 December – [VIRTUAL/FOR STAFF]: Digital Skills Development are running a session on Word and a session on PowerPoint to help you create more accessible content.
