UCL to honour all offers met to study Medicine this year

2 September 2020

We are delighted to confirm that we can now offer places to all students who meet the terms of their original offer for Medicine to start this year, rather than deferring to 2021/22.

This follows clarification from the UK Government that caps on Medicine programmes have been lifted for this academic year and additional clinical placements will be made available.

UCL’s priority is to be as fair as possible to all applicants, recognising that you have worked hard during unprecedented circumstances and deserve your first choice university and your preferred year of entry.

Professor Deborah Gill, Director of the UCL Medical School, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer places this year to all students who have applied to UCL and met the conditions of their offer with us. We understand it has been an incredibly challenging time for this generation of students and hope that our decision today will offer them some much needed reassurance.

“We also know that students and their parents will want to talk to us about this change, particularly those who currently hold Medicine places elsewhere for 2020 or who may now wish to defer to 2021. We will speak to them during coming days to help them make the best choice available.”

For those students and parents affected by this decision, please go to our updated information page here: Guidance for Medicine students.
