Rheumatology

Connective tissue diseases are a spectrum of disorders characterised by inflammation, tissue damage and remodeling or excessive repair often leading to destruction and degeneration of the target organ and replacement with scar or fibrotic tissue.

These disorders, which include scleroderma, lung fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension and degenerative joint disease, are good examples of pathogenesis with complex etiologies that reflect multiple cell and molecular processes and interactions between several distinct genetic loci and the environment.

Publications

We publish in excess of 20 peer-reviewed publications per year in connective tissue biology and scleroderma research in addition to several key review articles in the field.

Clinical Sciences

We are the major European centre for the treatment and management of scleroderma (systemic sclerosis) and related connective tissue diseases and have specialist clinics for Raynaud's phenomenon.
