The Department of Experimental and Translational Medicine focuses on conducting innovative and impactful research in the field of medicine.
We provide a collaborative cross-disciplinary environment for basic scientists, clinicians, and engineers taking innovative approaches to understand the mechanisms of health and illness. Our mission is to identify the means to sustain and promote health and to find new cures for disease.
Our work
Our activities involve a wide range of research projects, including the development of novel therapeutic approaches, the investigation of disease mechanisms, and the evaluation of new diagnostic tools. We employ state-of-the-art laboratory techniques, animal models, and sophisticated imaging technologies to unravel the complexities of various diseases.
The department actively collaborates with clinical teams, ensuring that research findings are directly applicable to patient populations. This approach facilitates the translation of cutting-edge research into clinical practice, offering patients access to the latest advancements in medicine. We conduct high-impact research that not only expands our understanding of diseases but also translates scientific discoveries into improved patient care.
The Department of Experimental and Translational Medicine is formed of six centres which conduct world-leading and translational research.

Our two-year MSc Dietetics course combines academic knowledge with practice to help you become a competent, passionate, autonomous dietitian.
