The arts have been linked with health and medicine for nearly 40,000 years. But whilst historically much of this evidence has been anecdotal, in the past two decades, a growing evidence base has demonstrated the tangible psychological, physiological, social and behavioural benefits of arts and cultural engagement. This presentation will provide an overview of some of the cutting-edge findings, illustrated with case studies of global practice. It will also discuss major policy developments including recommendations from the new WHO Health Evidence Synthesis report on arts and health.
