Professor Ijeoma Uchegbu appointed as Wellcome Trust Board Member

The Wellcome Trust board oversees the work of the trust and provides guidance to the executive team. Professor Uchegbu will take up her post on the team from 1st November.

We would like to congratulate Professor Ijeoma Uchegbu on her appointment as a Wellcome Trust board member.

Ijeoma Uchegbu is Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience at the UCL School of Pharmacy, and the Chief Scientific Officer of Nanomerics. She is also a co-founder of Nanomerics, and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Oxford Centre for Drug Delivery Devices at the University of Oxford.

Professor Uchegbu stated “I am delighted to be joining Wellcome as a governor, as Wellcome is a global funder of research; meaning that scientific discoveries have a good chance of impacting on those most in need.”

Professor Geraint Rees, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, said “Ijeoma is an outstanding senior colleague who will be a huge asset to the Wellcome; we are very proud of her contribution both to UCL and the global scientific community."

Professor Duncan Craig, Director of the School of Pharmacy, added "On behalf of the staff of the UCL School of Pharmacy, I offer heartfelt congratulations to Ijeoma on being asked to take on this highly responsible position. This is a hugely positive reflection of her achievements as a scientist but also her reputation as a prominent member of the scientific community.  We wish her well in this new role and are sure that she will make a highly valuable contribution to the governance of the Wellcome Trust."      

Dr Zoë Waller, Associate Director of Research, also gave her congratulations, saying “This is fantastic news. Ijeoma is an exceptional scientist and colleague. Her expertise and experience will be perfectly utilised in this role."

Ijeoma will join the team, headed by Julia Gillard, from 1st November.
