New two-week online English course for international university students launched

18 November 2020

The course has been specifically designed to improve students’ academic and English language skills through interactive online learning, and provides participants an opportunity to explore UCL, London and British culture from their own home.

Student studying on laptop on bed

Students will be taught by UCL academic staff in a range of live online classes, academic lectures and 1-1 or small group tutorials. They will develop some of the key skills needed for university-level study in the UK, including:

  • Academic English language skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking.
  • How to design and conduct a questionnaire and analyse the results.
  • How to write an academic research report and deliver an academic presentation.

They will also take part in guided virtual visits to places of cultural interest in London and socialise with other UCL students.

Who is the course for?

This course is suitable for:

  • Current international university students or those who are about to start at an international university.
  • Aged 18 years or above.
  • IELTS score of 5.0 or above.

It will be of particular interest for non-native English speakers who are looking to develop their English language and academic skills and get insight into British culture.

We still encourage students to apply even if they don't have a formal English language qualification; they may be asked to complete a short test or attend a virtual interview instead.

When is it running?

  • Online IT induction and introduction to the course: Friday 12 February 2021.
  • Classes: 15 – 26 February 2021.
