Drupal CMS: Add a file
Learn to add a file in Drupal.
Before you start
When editing use Chrome, Firefox or Safari but NOT Internet Explorer
Instructions
There are two ways to add a file (pdf, Word etc.) to a web page:
- Upload a new file to Drupal and insert it
- Find an existing file in the website's Library on Drupal and insert it
Upload a new file to Drupal and insert it
Step 1 - how to add a new file to the Drupal Library from your computer
- Click on the Media browser icon
- Click on Choose File
- Click on Upload
- Click on Next
- Leave the Options as 'default'
- Click on Submit
The file is now available in the Library
Step 2 - how to add the file to the page
- Go to the page where you want to show the file
- Decide how you want the link to appear:
- If you want to link to existing text, select the text first and go to step 3
- If there is no existing text, the actual file name will become the link text!
- Click on the add media icon
- Click on the Library tab and from the 'Type' drop-down menu, choose 'document'
- Click on 'Apply'
- Once the file has been selected, click on Submit
- The file text with a link to the file and an icon representing the file type (e.g. pdf, docx etc.) will now appear on the page.
- Save
- Finally, check you are happy with the result, including on a mobile device
Find an existing file in the website's Library on Drupal and insert it
- Go to the page where you want to add the file
- Place your cursor where you want to show the file
- Click on the add media icon
- Click on the Library tab and from the 'Type' drop-down menu, choose 'document'
- Click on 'Apply' once the file has been selected
- Click on Submit - The file should now be visible on the page
- Save
- If you need to put the page in the menu, check the instructions for putting a page in the website's menu
- Finally, check you are happy with the result, including on a mobile device
