Meet Alan Harper, Director of Faculty IT and Partnering and Portfolio Lead for Faculty Operations.
About Alan
Passionate about the delivery of excellent user interactions and customer service, Alan is a strong advocate for the faculty voice around digital experience and process improvement.
Alan’s education has been varied and eclectic – he first trained as a geologist, with a degree from Imperial College London, before settling on IT as his chosen career path, gaining a further MSc in Advanced Information Technology and then an MBA from Kingston University.
Currently, Alan leads Faculty IT & Partnering (FITP) at UCL, which provides specialist-tier 2/3 capabilities and technology-led initiatives to support UCL faculties’ individual needs. This also underpins their administrative, teaching and research strategic objectives.
In addition to this, Alan’s team delivers strategic IT business partnering capability – which enables the delivery of transformational IT change – and supports the delivery of faculty strategic initiatives through the provision of value-adding services to users.
Alan also works closely with Beth Beasant, Faculty Executive Director of Operations, as the Faculty Operations Portfolio Lead – a role focused on the delivery of faculty service improvements, new operating models for faculty professional service functions and in support of new academic initiatives.
Outside of the office, Alan enjoys keeping fit, retro gaming, gardening and spending time with his family – and counts southern Spain as his favourite holiday destination.
