UCL Personalised Medicine Domain is launching an Early Careers Network

18 December 2015

The UCL Personalised Medicine Domain is launching an Early Careers Network (ECN).

Personalised Medicine is defined as providing the “right medicine to the right patient at the right dose at the right time";  in effect, tailoring medical treatment during all stages of care, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment based on an individual’s biological data, needs and preferences. The Personalised Medicine Domain is a cross-disciplinary community that harnesses the breadth and depth of the personalised medicine research activity taking place across all UCL Faculties and its partner hospitals. We aim to support the delivery of innovative patient-targeted medicines and therapies.

The Network will aim to empower and support early career Personalised Medicine researchers by providing a platform for mentoring, careers advice and the dissemination of information about training, funding and job opportunities.

The ECN will also provide opportunities for early career researchers to meet their peers, share ideas and experience, and initiate collaborations.

We hope to organise events such as:

  • Improve your grant/fellowship writing skills
  • How to prepare for grants, fellowships and job interviews
  • What to do after you get your PhD? Alternative careers for Personalised Medicine researchers Work-life balance as a UCL researcher
  • Top tips for getting published
  • How to secure public and patient involvement
  • How to make the most of academic conferences

Want to get involved?

If you are a PhD student, post-doctoral researcher or junior Principal Investigator working in personalised medicine related research and would be interested in joining the ECN committee, please send your CV and a brief statement outlining why you’d like to get involved to Ruth Jamieson at r.jamieson@ucl.ac.uk by Friday 15 January.

The role of the committee members will be to identify what our early career researchers need, and lead the Network to support these requirements.

The Personalised Medicine ECN will be supported, administratively and financially (for events), by the UCL Personalised Medicine Domain.

Please also note the Early Careers Networks already active in the Neuroscience and Populations & Lifelong Health Domains.
