Role in the Synaptopathies Initiative
I study the circuit mechanisms underlying primary headache. Migraine has a heritability similar to that of idiopathic epilepsy, and several monogenic causes implicate synaptic dysfunction as a unifying mechanism. The polygenic mechanisms of sporadic migraine are unknown. The tools to manipulate synaptic function available within the Synaptopathies initiative allow some circuit hypotheses to be tested.
