Caroline Daly is Professor of Teacher Education at the IOE where she teaches and researches in teacher education and professional learning for Early Career Teachers. She taught English and drama in secondary schools for ten years, including as Head of English, before teaching on the secondary PGCE English programme at the IOE. She will take up the role of Centre Director on 12 April.

CTTR creates world-leading research focused on teachers’ work, teaching practices and teacher education. Its aims include:

  • enhancing the status and conditions of teachers' work;
  • contributing to workforce recruitment and retention;
  • identifying curricular, pedagogical and assessment practices that contribute to high quality educational experiences for all students;
  • addressing the educational needs of pre-service and practising teachers in the context of changing policy, curricular and societal expectations.

Professor Daly said: “It’s a privilege to become Director of the CTTR and to work with such a talented team that is committed to socially just goals for education and to supporting the crucial role of teachers in attaining these. The profession deserves critical attention to the nature of teaching and how teachers learn within complex conditions. The IOE has vast expertise here and I’m looking forward to working with colleagues who share this conviction in the next phase of the Centre’s work.”

Professor Alison Fuller, Pro-Director: Research & Development, said: “I am delighted that Professor Caroline Daly has been appointed Director of the Centre for Teachers and Teaching Research. She will bring her wealth of leadership experience in teacher education research and development to the role. Caroline has undertaken world-leading research on mentoring for teachers and on schools as sites for teacher learning. In addition to her considerable research experience, Caroline brings substantial expertise in teaching innovation, as well as advocacy for teacher educators and the teaching profession with policy and professional stakeholders.”

Professor Daly was conferred a Fellow of the International Professional Development Association in 2018, receiving her award at the IDPA’s conference in December 2019.
