Green light for IIT Pears Building construction
19 January 2018
Camden Council have given the green light for construction work on UCL Institute of Immunity and Transplantation (IIT) to commence.
The Pears Building will be home to the IIT and will be based on the campus of the Royal Free Hospital. All pre-commencement obligations associated with the planning permission have been discharged, meaning work can commence on site. The institute will be one of five leading centres of its kind across the globe bringing scientists and clinicians together to research revolutionary new treatments.
The Pears Building is funded by the Royal Free Charity, major donations from the Pears Foundation and an award from the UK Research Partnership Investment Fund. It has been designed by leading architect Sir Michael Hopkins and Partners, and will be a modern take on the old Hampstead Hospital founded on that site in 1882, whilst remaining in keeping with the unique architecture of Hampstead.
The building will open in 2020.
