INHALE first to use Oxford Nanopore MinION sequencing

27 July 2017

The INHALE project will be the first in the world to use Oxford Nanopore MinION sequencing in a clinical trial setting for diagnosis of HAP/VAP.

Royal Free Hospital

MinION can sequence genomes in anything within two minutes to two days depending on their size and complexity, supplying doctors with a genetic read-out that can help them pick effective treatments more quickly.

The trial is funded by public body the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and is designed to enable the most effective diagnostic tool to get fast-track approval for use in the NHS in around five to ten years' time.
