Dr Meera Mehta

Dr Meera Mehta is a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellow at the Division of Infection and Immunity, UCL.

Meera qualified from the Royal Free and University College London Medical School in 2008. Following her house jobs, she attained an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow position in Respiratory medicine at UCL. During this time she spent 6 months working in Dr Mahdad Noursadeghi’s lab. She has become increasingly interested in the role of inflammatory monocytes in respiratory infection, specifically tuberculosis.

Monocytes are short lived cells in the circulation, but are rapidly recruited to sites of inflammation where they differentiate in macrophages and dendritic cells. Meera is now undertaking a PhD looking at how innate immune stimuli can influence monocyte to macrophage differentiation, and whether this impacts outcome of disease in tuberculosis.
