The UCL Doctoral School Researcher Showcase, hosted by the Doctoral School, highlights researchers across the university including the research they have created and the ways in which their research has impacted them and the outside world.

The showcase consisted of a multi-media exhibition of the shortlisted entries from its four competitions: Research Poster, Research Images as Art / Art Images as Art, Data Visualisation, Blogs/Vlogs. Attendees were able to vote for their favourite entries in the People’s Choice Prize for each competition, where Maria was awarded the top prize for her Research Poster.

Sharing her thoughts on being celebrated for her work by her peers, Maria said,

Winning the people's choice award is an incredible honor for me, as it reflects the support and appreciation of those who have embraced my work. It's a heartwarming recognition that fuels my passion to keep creating and connecting with people on a deeper level.

Maria’s poster, titled “Cloudy with a Chance of Precision: Satellite's Autoconversion Rates Forecasting Powered by Machine Learning”, underlines her work on forecasting autoconversion rates using machine learning, a crucial process in precipitation formation.

With her research, Maria aims to enhance our understanding of cloud responses to anthropogenic aerosols and their implications for climate change. Her research highlights how the power of machine learning combined with the utilisation of massive satellite data, can provide longer-term data provision and global coverage.
