An annual apprenticeship scheme that provides an opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills to prepare you for a career in IT.
What is it?
Every year we recruit apprentices into our Information Services Division and Advanced Research Computing Centre for a 24–36-month programme. These apprentices start in September and undertake a range of rotations across our divisions to develop a broad understanding of our organisation and the IT solutions required to carry out our work.
Apprentices start on a suitable Level 3 programme which could be Digital Support Technician, Software Development Technician, IT Hardware solutions Technician, IT Software Solutions Technician or Information Communications Technician dependent on our needs. On successful completion of the level 3 programmes apprentices may be given the opportunity to complete a Level 4 programme such as Network Engineer or Software Developer.
We hope to be able to offer rotation opportunities to reflect your interests, these will be discussed with you throughout the programme. Examples of placements include:
- Service Desk
- Digital Accessibility
- Information Security
- Messaging and Collaboration
- Department of Imaging and Neuroscience
- Records and Workflow

These programmes are suitable for School or College Leavers who have a keen interest in a career in IT. It may also appeal to graduates or career changers who are looking for an entry into IT.
