Below is a list of places you can go, or information you can read to help you feel better equipped and to ensure you get the support you need whilst being there for someone else.
Talk to someone
Employee Assistance Programme: Staff Support Service
- Call 0808 196 5808 and select option 3 to speak to a counsellor about the challenges you may face in your role (24/7).
- Provides specific support for managers and Wellbeing Champions.
Rethink Mental Illness Advice Line
- Call 0300 5000 927 (9.30am - 4pm Monday to Friday)
- Get expert advice and information on mental health problems. Available to carers, health professionals, employers and staff.
- Call 0300 304 7000 (4:30pm-10:30pm every day)
- Access specialist emotional support, guidance and information. Available to friends, families and colleagues of those with mental health conditions.

Spot the signs, know how to have a conversation with someone you’re worried about.
Internal:
- Be an active bystander: Find out what to do if you witness a situation that’s not right and what processes are in place at UCL.
- Berevement and loss support toolkit: This toolkit has been designed to help managers and colleagues support their teams when a person dies.
- Report and Support: Report something, you or someone else has experienced that involves sexual misconduct, bullying or harassment. There is also information on how to support someone.
External:
- Samaritans have produced a guide on how to support someone you're worried about.
- Rethink have resources on how to support someone with suicidal thoughts, as well as a guide on how to help someone who is affected by mental illness.
- Mind have information on how you can be supportive to others, helping someone with a specific issue and coping while caring for someone else.
Learn skills to support others
