UCL Health of the Public Symposium

Global Health Security and Resilience: Making a safer world

What are we doing to understand the complex factors affecting animal-human disease transmission?
How can we increase our resilience to natural, environmental, health and technological hazards, and how does tackling health inequalities help?
How can we use global governance to ensure lessons are learned and we are better prepared for global health emergencies?

At UCL Health of the Public, we want to bring public health practitioners, policy makers, representatives from the NHS, third sector and industry, and researchers from across UCL and beyond together to tackle public health challenges from every angle.

Watch the recording of our annual symposium to hear from global health security experts, and explore what needs to be done to strengthen global health security. The event also featured rapid presentations from the recipients of our 2020/21 UCL Health of the Public Small Grants Scheme.

Speakers included:
Dr Susan Hopkins (UK Health Security Agency), Prof Sir Michael Marmot (UCL Institute of Health Equity), Prof Kate Jones (UCL Genetics, Evolution and Environment), Prof Judith Breuer (UCL Institute of Child Health), Prof Peter Sammonds (UCL Institute for Risk & Disaster Reduction), Prof Jose Torero (UCL Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering), Prof Susan Michie (UCL Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology), Dr Julius Mugwagwa (UCL STEaPP), Prof Rachel McKendry (London Centre for Nanotechnology), Dr Tom Pegram (UCL Political Science), Prof Andrew Hayward (UCL Epidemiology and Health Care), and many more.

See details of all speakers and sessions in our event brochure.
