Rome Tre has been researching railway traffic for more than two decades.

Prof D’Arianohas published more than 50 journal papers in dynamic railway traffic optimisation and his framework has been used by many other researchers as well as leading railway traffic system developers.

UCL has been running projects on real time traffic optimisation since 2011 with the sum of funding of more than £1m.

The research is directly contributing Future of Europe by realising European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS) initiative led by the railway industries across Europe, in which common standards are proposed for new railway control systems and rolling stock in order to allow international rail service operations and to improve the efficiency of necessary Research and Development and their implementation.
