As the United States, under the newly inaugurated President Joe Biden, rejoins the 2015 Paris Agreement, the article provides background on the history of climate change governance and the significance of the Agreement. It also discusses the potential for global climate action to receive a new boost in light of the upcoming climate conference in Glasgow, new commitments by major emitters, a groundswell of bottom-up action and the growing urgency of decarbonising the economy.
