Tom Pegram is awarded BA Small Grant

GGI Deputy Director Dr Tom Pegram has been awarded a British Academy Small Grant for his research project on 'Global Monitoring, Performance Assessment and Human Rights Policy Change'.
The project 'Who Guards the Guardians? Global Monitoring, Performance Assessment and Human Rights Policy Change' will look at constructing a cross-country database to correlate national human rights institutions' (NHRIs) policy reform with peer-review grading, covering 1999-2018. Preliminary research shows NHRIs have leveraged compliance to human rights treaties through an NHRI peer-review network. Peer review and other forms of global performance assessments (GPA) are important new tools in global governance, but efforts to examine their significance have been hampered by a lack of systematic data. A cross-country database will allow researchers and policy makers to gain a better understanding of global performance assessment (GPA) influence and consequences for human rights.
