Dr Jana Krause is presenting her book 'Resilient Communities: Non-Violence and Civilian Agency in Communal War' (Cambridge University Press: 2018). The book explains both civilian agency and the escalation of communal wars and the emergence of nonviolent communities and social resilience. It draws on extensive fieldwork in ethno-religious conflicts in eastern Indonesia (Ambon, Maluku province) and central Nigeria (Jos, Plateau State). Resilient Communities won the 2019 Lee Ann Fujii Award for Innovation in the Interpretive Study of Political Violence of the American Political Science Association’s Interpretive Methodologies and Methods (IMM) Section and was Finalist for the 2019 Conflict Research Society Book of the Year Award.
