Could a World Parliament Strengthen the Democratic Legitimacy of Global Governance? - Prof Mathias Koenig-Archibugi

The idea of a global parliament is at least two centuries old, but both its desirability and its achievability are still contested. The talk will consider arguments for and against its desirability from a democratic perspective and present new empirical findings that shed light on this controversy.

Mathias Koenig-Archibugi is Associate Professor of Global Politics and Programme Director of the MSc Global Politics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). His research on international political integration, European and global democracy, and international labour standards has been published in the European Journal of International Relations, European Journal of Political Research, Governance, International Organization, Philosophy and Public Affairs, World Politics, and other journals.
