Stipend    

Studentship awards include home fees and an annual tax-free stipend of approximately £19,237 (tbc), plus a London weighting. 

Overseas students are welcome to apply but will need to fund the remainder of their fees from alternative sources.  

The studentship    

The application process: 

  • Interested individuals should submit a two page CV and a covering letter of not more than two pages. 
  • This letter must include an explanation as to why you want to do a PhD in primary care research and contain a short proposal of the research that you wish to undertake during the PhD studentship. It needs to contain the name of the supervisor with whom the project has been discussed and who has agreed to act as primary supervisor for the PhD. 
  • Please name the CV and covering letter attachments using the naming convention: Surname_CV_STUD24 and Surname_Letter_STUD24

  • The deadline for applications is 9am on Monday 25 March 2024
  • Candidates selected for interview will be contacted before 29th March 2024 for interview on Weds 10th April 2024 (time TBC)
  • Unsuccessful applicants will be informed.
  • The successful applicant will be required to apply to and register on the Primary Care and Population Health research degree to take up the studentship.

Key requirements    

Applicants must have a first degree in a discipline relevant to primary care research and will be expected to complete a PhD/DPhil during the award period. Relevant disciplines include health sciences, sociology, health psychology, anthropology, social sciences, epidemiology, medical statistics, and health economics.

Applicants must have been in contact with a potential supervisor from the UCL Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health (PCPH) to discuss their proposed application. The primary supervisor must be a member of staff at PCPH.

This studentship covers the cost of tuition fees based on the UK (Home) rate.  Non-UK students can apply but will have to personally fund the difference between the UK (Home) rate and the overseas rate where they are not eligible for UK fee status.
