UCL Engineering PhD Student Business Festival: Entrepreneurship Competition 2023

10 August 2023

On Wednesday 19 July, UCL PhD students from different departments in UCL Engineering came together to learn about the entrepreneurship world. The conference combined active learning, networking and teamwork.

This contains three PhD students working together sat at a table.

Dr Mario Moustras kicked off the day with an engaging training session on the Business Model Canvas, which served as the backbone of the day's activities. The PhD students were then split into teams to compete for the best pitch, with the support of experienced mentors.

Check out the full schedule here.

“The Entrepreneurship Competition is yet another outstanding initiative conceived and run by postgraduate research students in UCL Engineering. The day-long event serves as an excellent introduction to the basics of entrepreneurship, as well as being an opportunity for students to come together to share ideas across disciplinary boundaries. With contributions from experienced entrepreneurs, the competition is also a valuable opportunity to for students to build personal and professional networks.”

— Professor Simon Banks, Director of Education and Faculty Tutor (UCL Engineering).

We would also like to thank our panel for their expert judgment and candid insights about the entrepreneurial world. They not only shared knowledge but also provided students with glimpses of their journey, reminding everyone that entrepreneurship is a continuous learning curve.
