Since it’s launch on March 8th, The UCL Department of Earth Sciences Women in Earth Science group (WiES) aims to support the progression of women and gender minorities in Earth science, highlight their achievements and create opportunities to network and engage in cutting edge research across the diverse fields of Earth sciences. For now, these events have taken place virtually in the shape of collaborative talks and lectures but the group plans to organize casual networking opportunities and supportive social events as well, creating a supportive and understanding environment, allowing all female Earth Scientists to accelerate in their career!

Made up of a team of engaging students, staff and supporters of the UCL Earth Sciences department, UCL WiES is working to increase the visibility of female Earth scientists and support their career progression by encouraging networking and collaborations globally.

This is most overdue, as even in our own Earth Sciences Department women make up only 17% of academic staff, and 13% of professorial staff. (UCL).

All are welcome to join and we would be delighted if you would like to become part of UCL Women in Earth Science. Please send your details to l.vocadlo@ucl.ac.uk to be added to
our mailing list and take a look at our website and check our Twitter: ‎@UCLWiES account for latest info.
