Otology

Otology research focuses on investigations into the external, middle and inner ear, particularly with regards to hearing and balance, together with their diseases, diagnoses and treatments. Audiology research seeks to understand the structure and function of the hearing organ and hearing pathways in the brain. It also looks at the causes and impact of deafness and hearing problems on physical, mental and cognitive health. Treatments consist of medications or surgery, including hearing device implantation.

Vestibular medicine focuses on research in balance disorders, which can include dizziness due to acute vestibular dysfunction and Meniere’s disease.

Audiovestibular medicine concerns the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of patients with hearing and balance disorders.
