The talk will explore the notion of ‘interaction space’ in the built environment and outline how, through the introduction of novel digital technologies, new modes of interactions emerge, where the attention and scale between “artefact” and “environment” shift. Augmenting it, or potentially disrupting it, with a variety of digital possibilities, in particular the ones that have the capacity to alter senses and or facilitate interactive, whole body, immersive and sensorial experience. These possibilities invite us to rethink the new resulting space of interaction. There will be a brief overview and then time for reflection with the audience on what this would mean for shared encounters when mediated through networked urban displays.
All are welcome and there will be drinks and discussion after the presentations. Attendance is free but we kindly ask that you register for the event.

About the Speaker
Ava Fatah gen. Schieck
Ava Fatah gen. Schieck is Reader (Associate Professor) in Media Architecture and Urban Digital Interaction on the MSc /MRes Architectural Computation Programmes at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. Her research focus lies primarily in the areas of Architecture, Interaction Design, and Ubiquitous Computing (Mixed Reality, AR and VR) that she has developed over the last 17 years through research and teaching positions she held at The Bartlett.
Ava’s research is practice-based, she is the Principal Investigator of the EPSRC research in the wild -' Screens in the Wild’ project. Through urban play, action research, and working with local communities, she leads a unique longitudinal research and a Living ‘Media Architecture’ Lab of connected urban screens running since 2011 (UK). Ava co-leads AHRC International Network ‘Whose Right to the Smart City’; that critically addresses the smart city agenda, in India, Brazil and the UK, allowing unique prospects of international collaborations with centres of excellence in research for the Digital Environment.
