Does UCL have an Art foundation course?

Thank you for this question, a Foundation course is a great way to discover different art practices before taking a degree.

The Slade School of Fine Art did run a popular 10-week Foundation Course but because of Covid this has not happened for the past two years and, unfortunately, it is doubtful for 2022.

As part of UCL Widening Participation and Access Programme there is a 2022 Summer School at the Slade School for students currently in Year 12. It involves a variety of disciplines, including Drawing, Sculpture, Photography, Video, Painting, Performance and Contextual Studies. The Summer School will enable you to gain some expert tuition in Art and experience what it’s like to make in an art studio environment. Applications must be made through on the Sutton Trust Summer School website programme and they open on the 11th of January and close on 9th March. The website has some general information and a link to the Sutton Trust application page.

In addition, there are short online courses for adults and attendees usually scan a wide range of ages. If you are under 18 (17+) you need to get permission from your school and permission from your parents or guardian. There is a fee for these courses which you can find more about here: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/slade/shortcourses

And you can find out about other Summer short courses here: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/slade/summer-school

New courses will be announced in early 2022 so watch this space and keep checking the Slade website!
