Roy Yuen Ze Min, an MSc student at the University College London's Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, has been honoured with the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society Student Award – MSc for his outstanding research in the field of subsurface utility mapping.

The Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society (RSPSoc) Council announced the award in recognition of Roy Yuen's thesis, titled 'Potential of Consumer-Grade Cameras and Photogrammetric Guidelines for Subsurface Utility Mapping.' The research delves into the application of consumer-grade cameras and various photogrammetric imaging configurations to conduct cost-effective subsurface utility surveys.

Dr. Jan Boehm, Yuen's thesis advisor, nominated him for the RSPSoc Student Thesis Award. Dr. Boehm expressed his enthusiasm for the unique perspective that Roy's work brings to the use of photogrammetric techniques in addressing critical infrastructure challenges. According to Dr. Boehm, Yuen's thesis exhibits a deep understanding of photogrammetric techniques and makes a significant contribution to the ongoing research on low-cost and consumer-grade sensors for professional applications.

The RSPSoc Council officially presented Roy Yuen with the award at The Society's Annual Conference, themed "Earth Observation and Photogrammetry for Real World Applications." The awards ceremony took place on the evening of Tuesday, September 5, 2023, where Roy Yuen joined the ranks of accomplished researchers and students who have been recognised for their exceptional contributions to the field of remote sensing and photogrammetry.

Upon receiving the news, Roy Yuen shared his gratitude and excitement, saying, "I'm honoured to receive the recognition of the RSPSoc for my MSc dissertation. I am thankful to my teachers, especially my advisor - Dr. Jan Boehm, supporting partners, and friends who have contributed to my work in one way or another."

Roy Yuen's dedication and innovative research continue to shed light on ways to improve subsurface utility mapping and benefit various professional applications, making him a deserving recipient of the RSPSoc Student Award – MSc. His accomplishments serve as an inspiration to fellow students and researchers in the field of geomatic engineering and photogrammetry.
