Research Project

Characterization of novel-structured solid oxide fuel cell

This project is about characterizing the novel structure of the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) using X-ray computed tomography at different length scales. Materials are non-destructively imaged, visualized and analyzed in 3D volume so as to inspect the microstructure parameters such as porosity, tortuosity, TPB and etc. Image-based modeling is a main tool to correlate the microstructure of the anode to the mass transport properties, which greatly favors the design of the novel structured anode and is also used to predict the electrochemical performance of the SOFC.

Teaching Interests

  • X-ray CT data analysis using Avizo
  • Mass transport analysis using Star ccm+
