Marshgate Building at UCL East officially launched
18 September 2023
Olympic champion and former UCL student Christine Ohuruogu MBE, along with two recent graduates, officially opened UCL East, the university's largest expansion in almost 200 years.
On 18 September 2023, the Marshgate Building at UCL East was officially launched, heralding the opening of the Advanced Propulsion Lab (APL), Manufacturing Futures Lab (MFL) and three new UCL Chemical Engineering MSc programmes: Advanced Propulsion, Digital Manufacturing of Advanced Materials, and Nature-Inspired Solutions.
During the grand opening ceronmony, Paola Lettieri, Pro-Provost of UCL East and Professor of Chemical Engineering, warmly welcomed guests to the new Marshgate Building. Prof. Lettieri has played a key role in the development of UCL's new campus on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Prof Paola Lettieri FREng, Pro-Provost of UCL East, said: “Our students are future innovators, and to innovate they will have to see problems from multiple perspectives. Our new campus will expose them to new ways of thinking and working across disciplines in spaces that encourage people to talk and cross-pollinate different ideas. The world is facing unprecedented challenges in areas such as climate, decarbonisation and sustainability. I’m confident our new UCL East campus will foster even more of the breakthroughs and discoveries that UCL is renowned for.”
The opening event provided visitors with the opportunity to tour the Marshgate Building, including the cutting-edge Advanced Propulsion Lab (APL) and Manufacturing Futures Lab (MFL), equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
