Engineers’ Interprofessional Working and Learning

10 November 2019

Funded by ESRC, David Guile and Rachel Wilde are in the final phase of a three year project researching the forms of expertise engineers require to work in client-facing interprofessional project team. These types of teams are a common feature of the work of engineers employed by consulting firms and have hitherto been under- researched, even though they employ significant numbers of engineers. The first paper from the project – ‘Articulating value’ for clients in a global engineering consulting firm: ‘immaterial’ activity and its implications for post-knowledge economy expertise was published in the Journal of Education and Work in 2018. Further papers are in the pipeline.
