UCL Careers hosted their 1st Researcher Hackathon in December 2023!

To address unmet medical needs and critical challenges in healthcare, UCL Careers and Metadeq Diagnostics collaborated to deliver UCL Careers 1st Hackathon for UCL Researchers.

The event brought together three groups of talented PhD students and Postdocs from across UCL, to devise innovative solutions for Metadeq's mission to revolutionise non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) diagnosis and hopefully contribute towards blood testing for NASH and Liver Fibrosis. The groups worked tirelessly over one day on challenges faced by Metadeq. Culminating with pitches, the award went to the team of four researchers (Fatimah Almousawi, Golsana Haghdousti, Kimberley Owen and Victoria Chu) who developed an innovative approach to isolating and stabilizing proteins – a crucial step in developing a non-invasive NASH diagnostic test.

Well done and congratulations to ALL Researchers who took part and worked hard throughout the day, producing interesting solutions and who made this initiative a big success!

Thank you to Metadeq Diagnostics for their contributions and sponsoring the award! It was an engaging event, which hopefully might inspire some of the researchers consider tackling this unmet medical need in the future! This great collaborative effort shows the potential impact of bridging closer collaborations between industry and academia.
