What does a normal working day look like for you?

I usually start with catching up with some messages from colleagues in different timezones (EG is a global company and we often work with teams around the world). After getting updates and responding to all requests, I start with the tasks assigned to me - it could be developing a new feature for our apps, fixing bugs or making some changes as requested by product teams. I also attend many meetings, related to the projects I'm currently working on.

What is the most challenging part of your work? What’s the most rewarding part of your work?

Working on a huge, multi-brand codebase is definitely a challenge. Sometimes it takes a lot of time and energy just to find the right part of the code to work with or the source of a bug. However, it is rewarding when you manage to overcome all these issues and finally see that the feature or view you developed is on the live app and works perfectly.

What advice would you give someone looking to move into a role like your own?

Mobile app development is a very dynamic and fast-changing sector, so be curious, be ready to learn new things all the time, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

What is something that would surprise someone to know about your role?

A stereotype about developers' jobs is that they sit at their computer all day, code, and don't interact with anyone. In reality, you'd be surprised at how many people from different departments are involved in every project: you'll have a chance to meet your colleagues from different locations, learn a lot of new things from them and have fun.
