Meet the Researchers and School of Life and Medical Sciences (LMS) Team
- Calum Leckie, Deputy Head
Calum oversees two careers teams. One team supports the career development of students from The School of Life and Medical Sciences. The other team supports the career development of research students and staff. Calum also provides careers support directly to students within the Faculty of Life sciences. Calum has been at UCL Careers since 2005 and prior to this worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the life sciences.
- Jana Dankovicova, Careers Consultant (Researchers)
Jana works specifically with PhD students and early career research staff at UCL Careers. Apart from delivering one-to-one guidance appointments and career development workshops related to both careers in academia and beyond, she is involved in the strategic development of the researchers programme at UCL Careers. Jana has been in this role since 2012 (with 7 years working at both UCL and SOAS). Jana has a background in academic research and teaching as a Research Fellow and then Lecturer.
- Sophia Donaldson, Researchers Team Leader
Sophia is a careers consultant for researchers, and she manages the researchers team, who help UCL research students and staff across all subjects with their career thinking, through a range of employer events, skills workshops, one-to-one careers appointments, and by sourcing researcher-specific internships and vacancies.
Sophia has a background in research. After her bioscience PhD she worked as a post-doctoral researcher, then as a science communicator for charities and think tanks. Before working at UCL she provided careers support for postgraduate students at King’s College London and The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
- Jo Budd, Careers Consultant (LMS)
Jo is a UCL Careers Consultant responsible for supporting Life and Health Sciences students with their career management, as well as being involved in the curation and delivery of the popular CareersLab YouTube series.
With a background in Psychology and over 7 years’ experience of working with students to develop career management skills, Jo is also an advocate of promoting accessible and inclusive design to careers education, both in person and for online careers learning.
- Glyn Jones, Careers Consultant (LMS (on career break))
Glyn delivers core UCL Careers services and also works with the Faculty of Medical Sciences to deliver their careers provision.
Glyn’s background is in the life science industry; after studying Genetics at the University of Sheffield, Glyn went on to work at the Director’s Office of the Barts Cancer Institute before working as the Education and Careers Officer at the British Society for Immunology.
- Tessa Parsons, Careers Consultant (LMS)
Tessa supports students and graduates in gaining the skills to make their next steps through one-to-one appointments and workshops. She works with students from all subject areas and is the link Careers Consultant for the Faculty of Brain Sciences. Her background is in public health research; she holds a PhD, moved to The Netherlands for her first postdoc position, and has experience in research and teaching in HE.
- Rebecca Ademolake, Work-Related Learning Manager
Rebecca oversees the work-related learning provision for Life and Medical Sciences faculties at UCL. This involves developing industry-led projects in collaboration with employers, in support of students' professional knowledge and experience. Rebecca's previous experience includes responsible business, and vocational training and assessment.
- Ella Mossop, Employer Engagement and Events Officer
Ella Mossop is a UCL Employer Engagement and Events Officer for UCL research students and staff. Ella delivers insightful employer panel events that offer UCL Researchers industry understanding and connections. She continually establishes key relationships with employers that can inspire UCL researchers.
Before joining UCL Ella graduated from the University of Leeds in Sustainability and Environmental Management and worked as a Transport Consultant.
- Sylwia Wasiak, Internships & Work-Related Learning Manager (Researchers)
Sylwia develops and manages relationships with organisations interested in UCL researchers. She works to enhance employment opportunities for UCL researchers, with a focus on internships/part-time projects. She also supports the recruitment of these candidates.
- Katja Gee, Work-Related Learning Officer (LMS)
Katja assists in the development and delivery of industry-led experiential learning opportunities for students in the faculties of Life and Medical Sciences. These opportunities include events such as masterclasses, panel discussions, and skill building activities. Katja has experience working in Higher Education in Canada and the UK, having previously worked in employer engagement and events with the Faculty of Engineering at UCL.
