Alice Winters

How long have you been in the Faculty of Brain Sciences and what is your current role?

I have been with FBS since September 2016. I joined as a temp, working part-time providing administrative support to the administrator of a large PG Cert programme.

In 2017, I moved into a clinical placements’ administrator post on the DClinPsy programme for six months, before returning to my previous post, where I was given the opportunity to job-share the PA to HoD role. I left the department in 2018 to take up the position of PA in the Queen Square Institute of Neurology for several years before returning to the department via secondment as PA to the HoD in 2020. I am now the administrative lead on the PG Cert Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Interventions for SMHP programme, which is a newly established route of the original programme I supported! I am also a PA within the Department of Computer Science.

What aspect of your work most excites you and why?

There are so many aspects of my work that are exciting. I have the pleasure of welcoming new PGCert students into the department each year, and it’s rewarding to see them develop and qualify as Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners.

I’ve had the opportunity to establish lasting connections with a broad range of colleagues in the department by working across various roles over the past seven years, and I am always excited to build connections with new colleagues. I am a core member of the PA/EA Community of Practice, which was formally established in 2022 and brings together colleagues from across the university to foster support, networking and to develop a forum for shared best practice. It’s exciting to be part of a collaborative network dedicated to developing projects that are beneficial to the EA/PA community as well as wider UCL.

What working achievements are you most proud of?

Establishing the PG Cert Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Interventions for SMHP in 2022 and supporting its development into an exciting and budding programme has been an achievement I’m proud of. I work with a wonderful team dedicated to our students’ development, and I am looking forward to seeing many more happy graduates in the years to come.

Tell us something interesting about yourself that people might not know

I am a bit of a forever-student and have studied Psychology, Early Childhood Education and am now completing my degree in Law and International Development. I am also a Mental Health First Aider, so I can provide initial support and signposting to anyone concerned about a mental health issue.

What’s the best advice you would give your younger self?

Be good to one another. Follow your heart and don't give up!
