The Bartlett expands the Promise Scholarship to include master's and PhD students

3 March 2021

UCL’s Faculty of the Built Environment, The Bartlett, today announces the expansion of The Bartlett Promise Scholarship to now include undergraduate, master’s and PhD students from underrepresented backgrounds.

The Bartlett Promise is a long-term project to attract students from a broader range of backgrounds to tackle the lack of diversity in the built environment.

The Bartlett Promise Master’s Scholarship and The Bartlett Promise PhD Scholarship are open to UK domiciled students with home fee status pursing a master’s or PhD programme at The Bartlett. The scholarships will cover students’ fees and provide a stipend for living and study costs for the duration of their degree. Recipients will also receive mentoring, personal support and careers advice throughout their studies. Read the full eligibility criteria here.

The expansion of The Bartlett Promise scholarship from undergraduate to postgraduate studies - master's programmes and doctoral study - reconfigures the pipeline of future academics and represents a major investment in opening up of new ways of thinking about and knowing the world, from vantage points currently underrepresented.

- Dr Kamna Patel, Vice-Dean Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at The Bartlett.

    Partnership with the Aziz Foundation

The Bartlett Promise works in partnership with donors who share our vision of a more diversified built environment to fund scholarships.  The Bartlett is pleased to announce that the Aziz Foundation will generously fund the fees for three master’s scholarships for British Muslim students and those who work to support the British Muslim communities. Together, we offer The Bartlett Promise Scholarship supported by the Aziz Foundation (also known as The Bartlett Promise – Aziz Foundation Scholarship).

This award has the same value and conditions as The Bartlett Promise Scholarship, but students must meet the Aziz Foundation criteria to be considered. Recipients will join a community of Aziz Foundation scholars in addition to being part of The Bartlett Promise Scholar community, helping students to develop their leadership skills by providing them with seminars, workshops and opportunities to build their networks.

It gives us great pleasure to be supporting disadvantaged students at The Bartlett through increasing opportunities for academic and professional development. I have no doubt whatsoever that these scholarships will help give talented and driven British Muslims the chance to excel and create a better tomorrow for us all.

    - Asif Aziz, Chair, The Aziz Foundation
